Happy Halloween!

Santiago's second Halloween was perfect in every way! We did lots of fun activities (he's still recovering from Halloween hangover. . . don't worry, I'm keeping him hydrated). We went to a Halloween party  and Pumpkin Picking.

Last night we went Trick o' Treating in our neighborhood. Santiago was thrilled to be dressed in his spoooky costume, walking right up to each door proclaiming "Teet Teet" (that's Trick or Treat in Santiago). It was absolutely precious!

as i type this blog post, santiago is sleeping, still recovering from his first epic halloween block party last night! he went as woody, and i went as his mother wah-wahhh, wah wahhwahh. he loved it! he really enjoyed seeing all the other children in their different costumes and everyone loved seeing him because woody is the very best cowboy in the wild wild west. santiago won the prize for best toddler costume! he was so excited, without really understanding why everyone was cheering and clapping and i had a proud mama moment. oh, it was wonderful but even more wonderful is i get to eat all his trick or treat goodies because obviously he can't eat them.

Pumpkin Picking!

this past Tuesday brought what was perhaps Santiago's favorite day EVER! a trip to Gilcrease Orchard.

the weather could not have been more gorgeous. it was serious fall perfection! we wandered around the Orchard for hours, his little face lit up and he squealed with delight upon being surrounded by the bright orange pumpkins. he wasted no time running around to explore them. we went through the hay maze no less than 10 times, posed for pictures with the scarecrows and went on a hayride around the Orchard!

on our way out, i treated myself to delicious apple cider donuts. it was a really delightful day, and i don’t think i’ve ever seen Santiago have as much fun as he did!

Santiago landed his first modeling job!

My friend April has the cutest little shop on Etsy, a few months ago she made Santiago an adorable Dinosaur toddler-size backpack to replace the dreadful diaper bag.

The backpack is total awesomesauce! It's lightweight and very roomy; in it Santiago carries diapers, a wipes case, his favorite toy, snacks and a sippy cup. He loves it and takes it everywhere we go, followed by lots of compliments which is quite alright by Santiago because he loves being told how cute he looks.

April emailed me last week and asked to feature Santiago on her shop modeling the boy toddler-backpacks and I replied right back with a big fat YES, because what mother doesn't want their child to be a model, am I right?

Sugar cookies

I've been feeling ________ lately. You fill in the blank and I'm sure it would describe an emotion my little heart has been experiencing. There is nothing traumatic happening in my life, just life happening in my life. Also, Saturday is my 28th birthday. Yes. 28. Midlife crisis here I come!

In an attempt to overcome this funk, I baked my favorite cookie recipe while Mr. Santiago oversaw the process. He was also the official "Cookie Tester."

Santiago did a marvelous job decorating the sugar cookies,

except I like more cookie in my bite than sprinkles.

One little monkey jumping on the bed, fell off and bumped his head.

My mom always told me, “No matter how careful you are, one day, you will drop the baby.” And I would always nod but think to myself, “NOO. NOT ME. NOT ME. NOT MEEEE!”

Well, substitute “drop the baby” for “let him fall off the bed,” and then, yes. Yes, it’s true. Life is cruel.

This morning, in the split second it took for me to remove my eyes from my cute kid to pick up the pillows from the floor(pillows he threw on the floor, may I add), down he went. BAM.

What followed were the most awful seconds I have endured in recent memory. Oh the guilt! Oh, the horrible, wretched guilt!

Santiago stopped crying almost as soon as I scooped him up, and once I had thoroughly inspected him for scrapes and fractures (all clear!) he flashed me the goofiest, most relieved little teary-eyed smile. I think he mostly got scared from my blood curdling scream than the acutal fall. Immediately I decided I could never forgive myself.

I think the fall may have increased his appetite because he devoured his breakfast.

So. Let’s do this: You tell me your Worst Mom Moment, and then I’ll nod and think, “Oh, I'm not such a bad mother . . .” Oh, c'mon pleeease, for the sake of my sanity.

Did you know Lions drink out of a sippy cup?

this morning while cleaning and organizing Santiago's closet he spotted a treasure, he squealed with excitement and pointed at his Lion costume!
He insisted on wearing it and I happily obliged.

Is it functional to be dressed in a head to toe lion costume all day? No.

Did he look as cute as a dang button in it though? You betcha!
