we're passing around the flu at our house like a hot potato.

and to top it off santiago has strep throat and I have a raging ear infection. we're going on day five of fighting this fierce sick-o of a germ. each day feeling a little worse than the last.

i gave santiago a vapor bath, then lovingly smeared vapor-rub all over him, including all ten of his cute little toes. he drank a sippy cup filled of love, warm milk with honey, and drifted off to dreamland.

so. . . . .

i'm going to tuck myself back into bed with a new book. a ridiculous love story.

we will miss summer.

we kept very busy over the summer, we did it all! the pool (almost daily), the library, the water park, the children's museum, the zoo, the park, the other park, the park on the other side of town with the very hungry ducks that chased santiago for his snacks, the lion habitat, play-dates, yogurtland because we ate way too much frozen yogurt way too many times this summer.


santiago and i are a bit nostalgic, we will miss summer but. . . the first sign of fall has shown it's face! pumpkin spice latte is back at starbucks!

Santiago landed his first modeling job!

My friend April has the cutest little shop on Etsy, a few months ago she made Santiago an adorable Dinosaur toddler-size backpack to replace the dreadful diaper bag.

The backpack is total awesomesauce! It's lightweight and very roomy; in it Santiago carries diapers, a wipes case, his favorite toy, snacks and a sippy cup. He loves it and takes it everywhere we go, followed by lots of compliments which is quite alright by Santiago because he loves being told how cute he looks.

April emailed me last week and asked to feature Santiago on her shop modeling the boy toddler-backpacks and I replied right back with a big fat YES, because what mother doesn't want their child to be a model, am I right?

Sugar cookies

I've been feeling ________ lately. You fill in the blank and I'm sure it would describe an emotion my little heart has been experiencing. There is nothing traumatic happening in my life, just life happening in my life. Also, Saturday is my 28th birthday. Yes. 28. Midlife crisis here I come!

In an attempt to overcome this funk, I baked my favorite cookie recipe while Mr. Santiago oversaw the process. He was also the official "Cookie Tester."

Santiago did a marvelous job decorating the sugar cookies,

except I like more cookie in my bite than sprinkles.

One little monkey jumping on the bed, fell off and bumped his head.

My mom always told me, “No matter how careful you are, one day, you will drop the baby.” And I would always nod but think to myself, “NOO. NOT ME. NOT ME. NOT MEEEE!”

Well, substitute “drop the baby” for “let him fall off the bed,” and then, yes. Yes, it’s true. Life is cruel.

This morning, in the split second it took for me to remove my eyes from my cute kid to pick up the pillows from the floor(pillows he threw on the floor, may I add), down he went. BAM.

What followed were the most awful seconds I have endured in recent memory. Oh the guilt! Oh, the horrible, wretched guilt!

Santiago stopped crying almost as soon as I scooped him up, and once I had thoroughly inspected him for scrapes and fractures (all clear!) he flashed me the goofiest, most relieved little teary-eyed smile. I think he mostly got scared from my blood curdling scream than the acutal fall. Immediately I decided I could never forgive myself.

I think the fall may have increased his appetite because he devoured his breakfast.

So. Let’s do this: You tell me your Worst Mom Moment, and then I’ll nod and think, “Oh, I'm not such a bad mother . . .” Oh, c'mon pleeease, for the sake of my sanity.

Santiago explores the museum!

I took Santiago to the Lied Discovery Children's Museum and he loved it.
Oh loved it. I feel an exclamation point belongs there. Exclamation point! He loved excavating dinosaur bones, shopping and playing the role of cashier in the mini grocery store, the arts and craft station, loved loved loved piloting an airplane, loved making giant bubbles, fishing in the pond, camping in the indoor wilderness exhibit, the live puppet show, but most of all he loved wandering aimlessly exploring the entire museum until his little legs were super sore.
